They say that a dog is a man’s best friend, but it turns out that owning a dog can actually be great for your physical and mental health, as well as providing unconditional love. Here are 5 ways that your dog benefits your health… 1. They Can Improve Heart Health Studies have shown that owning a dog can lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol and decrease triglyceride levels, contributing overall to better cardiovascular health. Needless to say, dogs make our heart explode, but only in the good way! 2. They Keep You Fit and Active Owning a dog means taking on the responsibility of ensuring that they receive plenty of exercise every day. For us humans, doctors recommend that we partake in at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of exercise per week. Most dog owners go way above and beyond this, leading to better overall health purely thanks to walks, ball throwing, and running around after rambunctious pups! 3. They Can Improve Your Social Life How many times when you’ve been out for a walk without your dog do you actually stop and chat to a stranger? Our bet is on next to none. Now take your dog out for a walk and count how many times you speak to strangers then. Our guess is you stop and speak to numerous strangers whilst your dog play, sniff, bark and yap at each other. Some people have even found lifelong friendships just through bumping into each other on dog walks! How great is that?! 4. They Can Reduce Your Stress There’s a reason why dogs are used as therapy devices on certain wards in hospitals and care homes. Studies have shown that interactions with dogs reduces anxiety and blood pressure and increases the happy chemicals serotonin and dopamine. It has also been studied that offices allowing dogs are also less likely to be a stressful environment and can also relieve tension in marriages! 5. You Can Be More Resistant to Allergies Studies have shown that children brought up in households with dogs are less likely to develop conditions including asthma, obesity and eczema and this can last a lifetime. Children are less likely to develop these conditions throughout their adult lives. So now you know that your dog looks after your health in many ways, why not check out our range of tonics so that you can make sure your dog is living its life to the fullest with you too? Wow, I find it amazing to learn that owning a dog can help you lose your weight, and they could also help you with socializing with other people by meeting dog lovers and other owners! My friend is interested in becoming a more socializing person after battling depression for 3 years. I'll share this with him so he'd consider getting one of those puppies we saw yesterday.

It's amazing how the presence of a furry friend can help you get rid of stress since they improve your mood! My uncle told me that he's been stressed non-stop because of this pandemic. We should look for breeders selling puppies around his area as a start.

I suffer from anxiety but I hate living alone. You said that dogs help reduce those kinds of problems. Maybe I can get one in my new apartment that I am moving into next month.

I love how you said that having a dog leads to better overall health and fitness because of walking and playing with them. My siblings and I have been trying to get our dad to let us get a puppy for a long time. We will have to pass along the information you provided to help us convince him to buy a dog for our family.

I liked it when you shared that having interactions with dogs can help lower down anxiety and blood pressure of the owner. My friend just mentioned the other day that her husband has been dealing with high blood pressure since a few months ago due to his mounting workloads. I will suggest to her getting a puppy for the family so they can have interactions with it and help reduce stress.

I like that you mentioned that you can find friends and form lasting friendships through even just taking your dog for a walk. My grandma goes for walks every day with her friends that she met while they were all walking their dogs. That is probably the most social interaction that she gets most days and it is so good for her!

Thanks for pointing out that owning a dog means taking on the responsibility of ensuring that they receive plenty of exercise every day. This is helpful because my husband and I want to have a puppy for our five kids. We are hoping to find a German Shepherd on Monday with excellent temperament and energy.

I love what you mentioned about how having a pet in our lives helps reduce our stress levels. Recently, my younger sister moved out of our parent's house, and she's been feeling homesick and very lonely, so I'll meet her over the weekend and suggest we find a dog for her. Thanks for the information on how dogs could make our lives better and happier.

Certain vitamins, like Vitamin C and E, can support immune function and help dogs maintain overall health and fight off infections.
